As an author I find it hard, many times, to find books that I think are worth reading. They seem to either be poorly written, plot is all over the place, or just flat out boring. Dhampir was not one of those.
This book pulled me in from the start. I, for the first time in a good long time, I found myself not wanting to go to sleep. Heck, I didn't even want to write! All I wanted to do is go pick up the book, and keep reading!
I wanted to walk, run, and fight alongside Magiere, but then again she already has a partner. There is action and danger around each corner. This book is a thrill ride!
BUT THEN...
Sadly, I finished it. I did excited that there was a couple more books in the series. It is the first time I went out and purchased the rest of the series, and I realized soon after I did that I had made a mistake.
I have never finished book two. For me it just did not have the same draw. I felt so let down.
So, here is what I will say. Dhampir is well worth the read as a stand alone book, but I personally felt that it should have been exactly that; a stand alone.
I enjoy reading books that normally I would not. I do this because it allows me the chance to expand my horizon, maybe find a new author, as well as learn from different writing styles.
The Nova Scotia Runner is one of those books that I took time out to read, and I usually would not. I am more of a fantasy guy, but I also love books where you can tell that the heart and soul of the author is in it. I also value an author who takes time out to research; especially if it is hailed as a historical novel.
Author Sheila Munoz did not disappoint in either of these two categories. Any reader can appreciate the historical value of this first book in the Nova Scotia Series. I could also tell that Mrs. Munoz had a passion for the characters of the book.
As stated, this is not a genre I would normally read, but what I found refreshing was the easy reading. I didn't feel as if I needed to go back and forth to figure out who was who. It was a book that I could easily read, put down, and come back to. When I did put it down I still found myself wondering what was going to happen.
Her characters seem genuine and real.
I do not want to say to much because I do not wish to spoil the story, but if you are looking for an easy "pick up" book that still will feed your book lover's soul; then this is a good one!

The book is an interesting take on the concept of angels and demons. The story dynamics come across quite military at times with different factions preparing for war along with the backstories of certain individuals given along the way. Most of my enjoyment from this book came from seeing that many of the characters lived in a gray zone which made it much more interesting and sometimes didn't make the right choice as they went underwent their crucible. - Goodreads.com reader Crystin

I came across this book just brousing and I am up to chapter 5 and loving it, it really pulls you into the story and the story so far seems very full, my schedules rough but when I do get a break to read a chapter or two right away I am there, Nathan your writing ability to tell a great story is wonderful and I am looking forward to reading book two, I am not going to talk about the story because if you really enjoy books on the other side that are really really good you have to pick this one up and dive into it, you wont be sorry. Thank you Mr. Parks.... - F.g. Hahn
